Controlling Your Dog’s Weight
Weight is one of the most important contributors to the overall health of your dog. Some studies estimate that as many as 40 percent of dogs in America are overweight. Overweight and obese dogs unfortunately will have weight-related problems and illnesses later in life. Thus, keeping your dog at a healthy weight is a vital part of dog ownership.
Just like their human counterparts, dogs who are overweight will have chronic pain, liver and kidney problems, and heart disease. Obese dogs also have mobility problems that may be exacerbated by arthritis, which in turn often develop as result of undue pressure on the joints. All these conditions combine to drastically decrease your dog’s quality of life.
