Obedience Courses

Of course, you love your dog! They are nothing short of amazing and loyally right by your side. This is why it is essential to introduce your dog to a form of dog training.

Every dog, regardless of breed, benefit from a good training program. Proper dog training can help develop a healthy and strong relationship between you, the owner, and your four-legged companion. Dog training also generally helps your dog become adaptable and comfortable in social situations and well-mannered in various environments.

Contrary to popular belief, you can always teach a dog new tricks. At Healthy Spot, we offer a variety of official certified training classes for dogs of all ages in accordance with the AKC, from expert trainer Bobbi-Lynn Riley, Certified Pet Dog Trainer(C.P.D.T.) and AKC Approved CGC Evaluator.

Read on to find the training that is right for your dog, whether you have a precious puppy who may need some initial behavioral training or an all-around dog who is ready to become a Canine Good Citizen. Our dog trainings with the Riley Dog Training team incorporate positive motivational techniques and address behavioral modification. Trainings are typically six-week group courses at our Healthy Spot locations – schedules are updated regularly; please give us a call to find out the latest available schedules for enrollment.

We will give you further information upon enrollment but all you will need to bring to your classes are:

  • Six-foot leash
  • A flat buckle collar (no chokes or pinch collars)
  • Some yummy treats such as Zuke's Minis or Ziwipeak.
  • A hungry dog and a positive attitude.

Group Class Requirements

We will go over all the requirements with you once you and your dog are signed up. There are just a few little things to check off your list so we ensure that your dog is ready to attend our fun-filled group sessions. All dogs must have had all of the following required shots and bring with them proof of vaccinations for Parvo, Distemper, Bortadella and Rabies(A titers are also acceptable). All dogs must be licensed (with tags).

Each person may handle one dog only. If you have more than one dog, please bring another person to work with the 2nd dog. You will be able to switch back and forth, if you like.

While learning valuable lessons, we encourage you to have fun! Graduation day includes fun dog and owner games! If you have any additional concerns or questions, feel free to ask us.

AKC’s Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program

Learning is valuable throughout your dog’s life. To become responsible, and well-mannered, the best step to becoming a good “citizen”, is through the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program, established by the AKC. This is an official certification program designed to reward those “good citizens”, demonstrating basic good manners by dogs and responsible ownership on the dog owner’s behalf – just think, this could be you and your dog.

The CGC program has been widely accepted by various veterinarians and even 34 state legislatures as a means of advocating responsible dog ownership. Don’t let the label intimidate you. All dogs of all breeds are encouraged to become Canine Good Citizens, as a naturally great way to train and gain amazing behavior skills. With the helpful training provided by the Riley Dog Training team, they will prep you and your dog to take the short behavioral evaluation of objectives including, but not limited to:

  • Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Allowing basic grooming procedures
  • Walking on a loose leash
  • Walking through a crowd
  • Stay
  • Sitting and lying down on command and staying in place
  • Sitting and lying down on command and staying in place

Once your dog passes the test, he/she is officially a Canine Good Citizen and earns an application for a certificate and special dog tag from the AKC in recognition of this honor. For some, the Canine Good Citizen program is a gateway to continued training, but in any case, this program has made a positive impact in preparing dogs to be on their best behavior and welcome in their community.
